No one knows for sure how long man has lived in this area but studies reveal that people enjoyed this
beautiful area for thousands of years.Settlements stretched along Lake Michigan from Harbor Springs
to Cross Village and the area became known as " The land of the crooked tree". One hundred and fifty
years ago, the businessmen of Harbor Springs were fur traders. In 1874 the surrounding land was
opened to settlement and in 1882 the railroad was built. This was instrumental in developing the resort
trade.The population of Harbor Springs is roughly 1500 during the winter months and nearly triple that
in the summer. Summer cottages are abundant and people come from all over the United States to spend
